We love the holiday’s almost as much as we love the residents and visitors of our city, but unfortunately, there are some out there that would like to ruin it all for some of us. Over the next few days and weeks, we are going to be providing some tips and tricks to help protect you from the Grinch’s out there that are looking for easy targets.
Today we are going to talk about traveling out of town.
If you plan on leaving Weaver to go visit family please remember to do the following to help secure your
valuables:
1. If you are going to be gone for a few days you can let the Weaver Police Department know and request us to do extra patrols of your address. Just call our non emergency number at (256) 820-0530 to let our dispatchers know the address and dates you will be gone.
2. Be sure to let a trusted neighbor know that you will be out of town and ask them to grab any packages that may be left by your door, and to take in your mail.
3. It is best to have light timers that automatically turn on lights at a specific time but if you don’t have them, leave a light on in a room that has curtains (this blocks people from seeing if a person is inside).
4. If you are planning to be out of town for over a week you can also notify the Post Office to hold your mail for those dates so it won’t accumulate in your mailbox (burglars like to check mailboxes to see if they have a lot of mail or to take your mail).
5. Plan your trip accordingly. We want to see you come back as healthy as you left. Be sure to give yourself enough time to arrive at your destination without giving yourself the feeling that you need to rush. Traffic on the highways increases during the holidays and the possibility of a crash also increases. If you are traveling long distances plan on rest breaks to stretch your legs and get your circulation moving. This will help fight fatigue and boredom while on the roadways.
Be sure to pass this along to family and friends that may be traveling to come see you as well.
We hope everyone has a great holiday and will be back here with more tips soon.
Thank you!
