For Immediate Release
On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at approximately 11:10 a.m. the Weaver Police Department received a 911 call reporting that a man had been stabbed at a residence in the 200 block of Bluebird Dr. (Weaver P.D jurisdiction). Upon arrival, Officers made contact with a man with a laceration to his throat/neck along with witnesses to the assault. The 43 year old, male victim, was conscious and able to communicate with Officers. Witnesses identified the weapon used to be a box cutter type of knife.
Weaver Fire Department personnel and Anniston EMS responded to the scene and determined that the victim’s injuries were severe enough that he had to be air lifted. A landing zone was established on AL Hwy 21 at the intersection of Longshore Dr., and the victim was flown to UAB in serious condition.
Investigators on scene (with help from the Calhoun-Cleburne Major Crimes Unit) were able to identify the suspect, Quinton Lee Paton (age 42).
The suspect and victim had been hired as day laborers by a local business to work on a pool.
It is not know if the suspect and victim knew one another prior tot he assault. The victim is from the Anniston area, and he stated he was homeless. It was learned that Paton was in the Anniston area due to having been court ordered (out of Baldwin County) to an Anniston area rehab (Restoration Recovery).
Another witness to the assault drove the suspect from the scene to de-escalate the suspect, and that witness contacted 911 after dropping the suspect off in the Anniston area.
Anniston P.D. was notified, provided with the Paton’s identity, description, and general location. Anniston Officers located Paton in the vicinity of the American Inn (US Hwy 431). Paton was detained without incident, and subsequently arrested.
Paton was taken to the Calhoun County Jail on a charge of Attempted Murder with a bond being set at $60,000.
I wish to thank the Calhoun-Cleburne Major Crimes Unit and the Anniston Police Department for their quick assistance in helping to identify and apprehend Paton.
