As we eagerly await the arrival of 2024, the Weaver Police Department wants to ensure that your New Year’s Eve is not only joyful but also safe. Here are some additional safety tips to keep in mind as you celebrate this special night:
- Designate a Sober Driver: If your plans involve alcohol, ensure you have a designated driver or use alternative transportation services to get home safely. Let’s work together to keep our roads free from impaired driving incidents.
- Secure Your Home: If you’re heading out for the evening, make sure your home is secure. Lock all doors and windows, and consider using timers for lights to give the appearance that someone is home.
- Firework Safety: If you’re planning to celebrate with fireworks, adhere to local regulations and safety guidelines. Keep a safe distance, have a designated shooter, and never aim fireworks at people or structures.
- Stay Connected: Keep your phone charged and easily accessible. Program emergency numbers, including local law enforcement, into your contacts. Stay connected with friends and family, and have a plan for where to meet in case you get separated.
- Be Aware of Surroundings: Whether you’re in a crowded public space or a more intimate gathering, stay aware of your surroundings. If you observe anything suspicious, report it to law enforcement.
- Home Safety: If hosting a gathering at home, ensure that walkways are well-lit and free from hazards. Keep an eye on open flames, such as candles, and have a plan for emergencies.
- Community Watchfulness: Let’s continue to look out for one another. If you see someone who may need assistance or is in distress, lend a helping hand or notify authorities.
From all of us at the Weaver Police Department, have a fantastic New Year’s Eve filled with joy, responsibility, and a commitment to safety. Here’s to a wonderful 2024 for our Weaver community!
